Polokwane, 06 February 2026 – The Department of Transport and Community Safety today officiated the inauguration and induction of the Gateway Airport Authority Limited (GAAL) Interim Board at Polokwane International Airport Conference Hall. The event was chaired by Head of Department Mr Stephen Matjena.
This milestone event marks a critical juncture for GAAL, tasked with managing Limpopo’s airports, including Polokwane International Airport, and developing the province’s aviation infrastructure.
In her address, MEC Violet Mathye emphasized the interim board’s strategic and urgent role in stabilizing GAAL, restoring confidence, strengthening governance, and laying the groundwork for long-term sustainability.
The interim board is as follows:
1. Mr. Ramakuela N( Office of the Premier)- Chairperson
2. Mr Mangena NJJ( Department of Transport and Community Safety ) Deputy Chairperson
3. Mr Ramusetheli MG( Provincial Treasury) member
4. Dr Musitha ( Limpopo Tourism Agency) member
5. Ms Mashilwane LF( Department of Public Works. Roads and Infrastructure) member
6. Mr Mathobo TL( Limpopo Economic Development Environment and Tourism) member
MEC Mathye expressed concern over administrative issues and the delayed implementation of a turnaround strategy, stressing that support from the department is contingent upon accountability, clear deliverables, and measurable progress. “You will have my support as a shareholder, but that support goes hand in hand with accountability, clear deliverables and measurable progress,” the MEC emphasized.
